ACLU WINS AGAINST TRUMP AND HOPES TRUMP GETS USED TO LOSING

Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe held a press conference at Dulles International Airport, where he said one family had been detained. The Democratic governor criticized Trump's order as one that will "breed hatred toward Americans around the globe."

Local news reports indicated that some 50 people were being held at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. One Syrian Christian family who had been working with Rep. Charlie Dent (R-Pa.) was detained at Philadelphia International Airport and then subsequently forced to leave, according to the congressman.

One of the most high-profile cases Saturday involved two Iraqis with valid visas who had just landed at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport. One was an Iraqi who had assisted U.S. troops; the other was arriving in the U.S. to reunite with his refugee family.

The men’s lawyers filed a lawsuit to get their release; two Democratic members of the Congress, Reps. Jerry Nadler and Nydia Velazquez rushed to the scene to urge U.S. officials to release the men. Both were eventually released. 

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, also a New York Democrat, said he had spoken on the phone with Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly and urged him to rescind the relevant executive measures.

"These executive orders were mean-spirited and un-American in their origin, and implemented in a way that has caused chaos and confusion across the country," Schumer said in a statement. "They will only serve to embolden and inspire those around the globe who would do us harm. They must be reversed, immediately.”

...Perhaps most surprising, the administration also insisted the order applied to U.S. legal permanent residents (so-called green-card holders) who hailed from those seven countries and had been traveling abroad. Such individuals would have to get an as-yet undefined new vetting process before being allowed back into the United States. Foreigners with multiple nationalities who hold citizenship in any of those countries as well — such as a French-Libyan person — also are temporarily barred from entry.

ACLU celebrates: 'I hope Trump enjoys losing'

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is celebrating after a federal judge ruled in its favor, temporarily halting the removal of refugees and immigrants detained following President Trump's immigration ban.

“I hope Trump enjoys losing. He’s going to lose so much we’re going to get sick and tired of his losing,” ACLU national political director Faiz Shakir told Yahoo News shortly after the decision was announced.

"Hispanics are often described as driving up the nonwhite share of the population. But a new study of census forms finds that more Hispanics are identifying as white.

An estimated net 1.2 million Americans of the 35 million Americans identified in 2000 as of “Hispanic, Latino or Spanish origin,” as the census form puts it, changed their race from “some other race” to “white” between the 2000 and 2010 censuses, according to research presented at an annual meeting of the Population Association of America and reported by Pew Research.

The researchers, who have not yet published their findings, compared individual census forms from the 2000 and 2010 censuses. They found that millions of Americans answered the census questions about race and ethnicity differently in 2000 and 2010. The largest shifts were among Americans of Hispanic origin, who are the nation’s fastest growing ethnic group by total numbers.

Race is an immutable characteristic for many white, black and Asian-Americans. It is less clear for Americans of Hispanic origin. 

The census form asks two questions about race and ethnicity: one about whether individuals are of Hispanic or Latino origin, and another about race. “Hispanics” do not constitute a race, according to the census, and so 37 percent of Hispanics, presumably dissatisfied with options like “white” or “black,” selected “some other race.”

The researchers found that 2.5 million Americans of Hispanic origin, or approximately 7 percent of the 35 million Americans of Hispanic origin in 2000, changed their race from “some other race” in 2000 to “white” in 2010. An additional 1.3 million people switched in the other direction. A noteworthy but unspecified share of the change came from children who weren’t old enough to fill out a form in 2000, but chose for themselves in 2010.

I was glad to see that only 7% of "hispanics" belong in the same self-centered box as the twit that tweeted above. More important than that, I wonder if we can stop  Mexican, Puerto Rican, and South American voters from breaking down the People-Of-Color Voting block.

But 33% of Latino men voted for Trump. And if trying to get inside whiteness isn't the main problem, then we need to figure out what is. 

If 60% to 66% of white people are going to vote whiteness in any giving year and that vote goes to the Alt-Right containing republican party, then we need to either force the democratic party to become a people of color party or create a new one. We have to solidify a POC vote. Bernie and the white left are already talking about "getting away from identity politics" which can be translated as "we need to go after the white racists, white racism enablers, and white racism deniers (all the same in my boook)

I don't know how we get a solid POC vote done if the "hispanic vote" goes the same way as one of its parts; as I understand it, Cubans identify as white 85% of the time. It follows that 70% of Cubans voted for the white supremacy candidate in the last presidential election.

We as people of color need to understand our own histories, one another's histories, and our present in order to forward together.

They didn't get as far away from him as possible, like you do when there's a bomb.

Then they put him and the clock in an office: not like you do when there's a bomb

Then they waited with him for the police to arrive, and then they put the clock in the same car as the police.

Then they took pictures of it.

He said: Damn.....They never thought he had a bomb.
