i don't exactly hate being white...

"i don't exactly hate being white. i don't talk about this often because i don't want to be appropriative or anything but i think it would be nice to not be white because i have always had trouble liking the features my heritage has given me, and i think other features typical of other races and even regionally are much more beautiful. i definitely hold a grudge against other white people and i too assume they're bigoted until they prove otherwise because i've just met so many who are and the "benefit of the doubt" has blown up in my face so many times. i don't get mad at people for thinking that of me though. i think it just kind of comes with the territory of privilege and if it doesn't apply to me then i shouldn't be mad about it and i'll just keep being me." ~AH

Of course I've found out people were racists all of a sudden. But this doesn't happen to me too often. I've been on this planet a long time. And I've been black in the United States for all of it.

My awareness is pretty good most days. There are usually what I call "iceberg comments" before you get too deep into a relationship with a person. These comments on the top of the water give you very good idea of what's going on beneath the surface. And you can step away.

So I don't get surprised by racism too often.

But I never thought about what it must be like to be white, be relatively unaware of white privilege and unaware of yourself as raced-person TOO, then have something like Trayvon Martin or Renisha McBride happen. AND THEN listen to close relatives, friends, and co-workers start spewing racism...that you never knew was there.

It's one thing for this to happen to a black person. Nothing about it is shocking. Or it shouldn't be. It's just like disappointment----again and again and again.

But it has to be a nastiest of shocks when racism explodes WITHIN somebody close to you and comes out. And then you start looking around and seeing the subtler signs of it in an ever widening circle around you.

There's a lot to unpack here.

COMPETING NEGLIGENCE: ALLIGATOR MOM VERSUS GORILLA MOM

Now, I can't bring myself to post a picture of that cute, little, white baby that was killed by an alligator in Orlando the other day. I wish I'd never seen it. He was anonymous without that picture that's available now. And it broke my heart.

Faceless, it was like he almost wasn't real.

However, like so many others, I must make this point before I go on with my life. I cannot let the attack of a black woman go unchecked.

Last month, a black woman's son wound up in a gorilla's cage at the zoo. As I said in my previous post, I didn't know that the child or the woman that birthed him was black when I first heard the story. Even when I saw the video, I didn't know. The gorilla was swinging the child too fast; the toddler was a blur

But I should have known based on the response to the near death of this mother's child.

Before I'd even heard about Harambe the gorilla almost killing any child anywhere, I heard about the petition to have the mother arrested for neglect because of something that happened to a child at a zoo. Thousands and thousands of people had already signed it before I knew anything about anything.

I was surprised because:

--I'd never heard of such a petition before
--I have heard of any number of stupid and deadly things happening to (usually white) children at the zoo.

Well in Orlando, the child died.

The family involved wasn't at a zoo but at a resort. Apparently, white parents (mother and father were there) allowed their child to go into water marked with a clear no swimming sign.

If I saw such a sign I wouldn't have assumed their might be alligators in the water, to tell you the truth. I think it's outrageous that the sign near the resort's lagoon doesn't say, "Alligators may be in the water." It is even more outrageous that there are men hired by the resort, to stand around the lagoon with guns in case they need to kill alligators without that same resort making clear statements to the guests at the resort about possible alligators.

Then again, maybe the resort makes a quickie statement about alligators at check in, hoping you'll forget about it in the confusion and fuss at the front desk so you can enjoy yourself at the beach.

But all of this is beside the point.

This is the point: There is a sign that says "No swimming." The white parents let their child go in the water.

Not being from Florida, I might have assumed that sign meant many things - like contaminated water. If I saw a sign that said "No Swimming." I wouldn't let me toddler near it. But that's just me.

But that's not the point either.

The point is that the white parents violated rules, no matter how big or small one might assume the rules to be, and their child paid with his life.

When the black parents violated no rules at all last month, white folks were calling for
the mother's arrest for negligence.

There WAS actual negligence in Orlando, no matter how big or small you think that negligence was.

So, where are the calls for the white mother's arrest?

Where is the outrage for the overwhelming feelings of protectiveness for the child that cancel out  any sympathy at all for an imperfect mother?

Where is online petition to have the white mother arrested?*

I'll tell you where it is, it's in white folks back pocket along with their unacknowledged, anti-black, racism.

The white people reacting so sympathetically, despite the clearly marked sign that says "no swimming," don't even know that they are reacting differently this month than they did last month. But I do.

Gorilla Mom was black
Alligator Mom was white

Public responses to similar stimuli should be similar

But they aren't because racism is real, conscious or unconscious

*************
*************

I've been sarcastic in the post above in order to make a point.  But I have actually read that the resort in Orlando has people on the edges of the water, on boats in the water, looking to shoot alligators that have gotten in.

So that makes what happened, ridiculous

That sign should say, "Yes Alligators" instead of "No Swimming." But I still wouldn't have let MY toddler near that water. And if the sign had said, "Yes Alligators" we wouldn't have been on the beach either -- which is exactly what the resort was trying to avoid.

I hope that white couple wins millions.  And I'm so sorry for their loss.

I hope the black couple wins millions too, for that fence at the Cincinatti Zoo being ridiculously inadequate and for creating the inciting incident toward the vicious racist attack the black couple suffered via various online petitions and the like.

Bottom Lining It: Black people have to be vigilant even in the face of near tragedy. We can't even sneeze without the white majority trying to destroy our lives over an imaginary outrage.

*****

*When a toddler wanders off  police are not looking to arrest the "parents" When a child is neglected or gets hurt, they are only looking for Mom.

It's as if Dad doesn't exist or isn't REALLY responsible for the children they bring into the world, not as much as Mom is. Don't believe me?  Watch the news the next time a child is wandering alone on a highway or in the mall. The news anchors always say they are looking to arrest "Mommy" and not "Daddy."  (Patriarchal Society Lesson #1302)

STREET HARASSMENT, DEATH, AND NEEDING FEMINIST BLACK FATHERS

FROM BOUGIE BLACK GIRL

See Part 1 "HANDLING STREET HARASSMENT [correctly] IS A LIFE AND DEATH SITUATION

MORE OF THE SEXIST AND VIOLENT COMMENTS ON THIS YOUNG GIRL'S CELLPHONE SELFIE VIDEO - from Bougie Black Girl

http://bougieblackgirl.com/if-the-video-of-a-black-woman-rejecting-a-black-man-made-you-mad-youre-wrong-and-heres-why-nsfw-video/

This young black woman was considered, by 60% or more of those making comments, to be unimportant and also lucky to be seen, wanted, and desired by a black man.

Her short rejection of him, her refusal to give black men her name, was seen as rude by 60 to 75% everywhere I saw this video when it came out near April 2015.

She was lucky that she decided to be "rude" in exactly the right way because sexism and misgynoir that is ever present in the black community. And sometimes that sexism and misogyny kills.

The two mentally deranged killers in the earlier post represent .01% of our population. But the comment-ers on the Cellphone Selfie Girl's video probably represent 60% if we're lucky.

If those sexist, misogynistic comment-ers are representative, the 60 to 75% of black men and women are planting sexist, misogynistic, rape culture seeds in half or more of the black boys being raised to black men, right now.

The three part post
on Enietra Washington
was about the black-male-version
male superiority

The three part post
Enietra Washington
was about hotep-ess-try
at its absolute worst

The three part post

on Enietra Washington
is about rape culture,
black community style

Do not think for one minute that black women are safer from black men than white women are from white men. Do not let all the hype around the Stanford rapist fool you.

That cellphone selfie video is from April 2015 as far as I can tell.

Her first words in the video are, "I'm scared. I'm too friendly. I shouldn't have spoken to him."

Yet black response to her cellphone video

is critical of HER
and not
the young man
who practically demands her name.

This shows how strong sexism, misogyny, and rape culture is in the black community just like as black defense of Bill Cosby did.

I'd be surprised if there are 5 women in the United States who haven't gone through what the young girl in the cell phone video went through at some point in their life. When it's happening to you, you think to yourself,

'Oh, there's nothing to be afraid of, he's just annoying'

But you're scared.

You're thinking nothing happened the other 99 times a guy kinda stalked me.

But you're scared.

He won't go away. And entitled fool is an angry fool.  And  60% to 75% apparently thinks a black man is entitled to a positive response to "Can I get your name?" from a black woman.

A woman winds up wondering, 'How angry will he get? How much danger will I be in if I don't let him know I'm flattered but not interested in exactly the right tone?'

Some think maybe a woman should just be nice for as long as it takes, and he'll go away happy soon enough. But now we'll be able to remember what happened to Enietra Washington

Maybe you, or the girl child you're raising to a woman,  won't get into a car with a strange man no matter what kind of racial blackmail he throws up.

But maybe you'll be at a bar like Janese Talton-Jackson. Maybe Jackson did the nice approach at first?  Maybe she said "Hello" and was polite for a while... until he wouldn't move on. Maybe he thought he had a chance with Janese for a minute -- BECAUSE she talked to him; then got angry when he found out he was wrong; then decided to follow her and shoot her dead because he felt led on.

To every one of the people who still do not get how the three situations experienced by Cell Phone Selfie Girl, Janese Talton-Jackson, and Enietra Washington overlap, I hope you think, re-think, then think again because YOU are the problem in our communities.

Nobody gets to sit this problem out.

I remember how scared I used to get when I'd see a man (a boy really) start to swell up with anger at being rejected. Eventually I got to feel lucky that "rude" and "stuck up" were the only things hurled at me because I could tell some of them wanted to hit me -- just like that one guy commented at Bougie Black Girl.

It's 2016. Our boys need to be raised differently. We need feminist fathers to raise boys to be feminist fathers who raise feminist girls and feminist boys.

We need men that understand that sexism, misogyny, intraracial entitlement, and rape culture aren't going to go away by themselves any more than white racism, white privilege and rape culture are going to go away by themselves for white people.

We have to do better by our boys so we can do a hell of a lot better by our girls.

LIN-MANUEL MIRANDA'S SONNET FOR VANESSA AND ORLANDO

Don't know who Lin Manuel-Miranda is? He is KING on Broadway right now. He mixed History with Hip Hop and got "Hamilton"  Now ,he has a megahit on his hands.

You're lucky if you can get tickets to his play below $1000 a seat  on the street if you wanna go last minute. More than that, he's probably tripled the number of black and brown people on stage in New York City all by himself with "Hamilton."

Of course, Danai Gurira's "Eclipsed" and Alice Walker's "The Color Purple," have helped him out in that regard. And six time Tony winner Audra McDonald is in "Shuffle Along" right now too.

LOVE IS LOVE IS LOVE
"My wife's the reason anything gets done
She nudges me towards promise by degrees
She is a perfect symphony of one
Our son is her most beautiful reprise.
We chase the melodies that seem to find us
Until they're finished songs and start to play
When senseless acts of tragedy remind us
That nothing here is promised, not one day.
This show is proof that history remembers
    We lived through times when hate and fear seemed stronger;
We rise and fall and light from dying embers, remembrances that hope and love last longer
And love is love is love is love is love is love is love is love cannot be killed or swept aside.
I sing Vanessa's symphony, Eliza tells her story
Now fill the world with music, love and pride."

STANFORD RAPE CASE JUDGE REMOVED FROM SEXUAL ASSAULT CASE

"Aaron Persky, the judge facing intense backlash over his sentencing in the sexual assault trial of a former Stanford swimmer, [Brock Turner] has been removed from another sex assault case at the request of the Santa Clara District Attorney's Office."

"The office said Tuesday it filed a motion to disqualify Persky from an upcoming trial in which a male nurse allegedly sexually assaulted an anesthetized female patient.

[In an unusual move] Persky was disqualified by the administrative judge of the court following the DA's request."

OMAR MATEEN: WOVEN TOGETHER IN AMERICA

      PULLING AT THE THREADS WEAVING

      TOGETHER

      NON-MENTALLY ILL YEARS
This man had a "drag queen" as a friend and they went to various clubs as friends. And in the BBC article below, Omar Mateen went to the club where he killed 50 people to drink.
About 10 years ago, Mateen, a few years out of high school, was working at the supplement store GNC. Samuel King, a year ahead of him in high school, was working next door at the restaurant chain. Mateen was a few years out of playing football in high school while King, who is openly gay, had long, flowing extensions, and prettier hair than most of his female co-workers.
...King saw none of that homophobia. Quite the opposite: He said Mateen knew that he and many of his co-workers at Ruby Tuesday were gay, and didn’t seem to have a problem with it.  “That’s the thing that’s pinning me to the wall the most, that it was a gay nightclub,” King said. “Because he would come into the [the restaurant] and laugh with us.
But people would rather talk about Mateen being Muslim?

From The Top: Omar Mateen, Wade Michael Page, Lonnie Franklin Jr.

      * * * * *

REGARDING WHO GETS TO BE LABELED "MENTALLY ILL" BY THE PRESS

Just because someone is "mentally ill" that doesn't mean they aren't responsible for their actions.

The main stream, mostly white, media reserves the label "mentally ill" in order to dismiss white shooters of black people, brown people, and women in order to avoid investigate racist and sexist patterns in the communities from which these predominantly white male shooters come from. However, "mentally ill" does not, in reality, negate the racism, sexism, and homophobia in the society a shooter comes from. It just stops us from talking about these influences -- which is a piece of white-maleness protecting itself.

The Grim Sleeper, to me, is clearly both mentally ill and responsible his evil. The community he came from was sexist and misogynistic to let him get away with it for 20 years, in my opinion. His community, his sexism, and his mental illness are part of a whole inside him that pushed him to kill (likely) dozens of black women.

But the predominantly white press doesn't identify Lonnie Franklin Jr, the Grim Sleeper, as "mentally ill" because he's the wrong hue.

White Mass Shooters identified as "mentally ill" by the mainstream media
Adam Lanza, Dylann Roof, James Holmes

Omar is the wrong hue too.

There's a lot of talk about "Muslim" this and "Muslim" that on the right. But when 9/11 happened "Muslim" was interchangeable with "Arab" which was interchangeable with "not white."

So this is not about religion. And those screaming about "Muslim this and "Muslim That" don't think this is about religion either. The proof of this lies in the fact that Donald Trump is screaming loudest about "Muslims" right now, and he never thought about being a Christian or a Jew or anything that believes in God, not one time.

So does a Muslim shooter, a non-white shooter, in the United States get to be "mentally ill" like white supremacist shooter, Wade Michael Page, at the Sikh Temple?
Will we ever investigate Omar Mateen
      as a mentally ill person
acting on high levels of homophobia in America

who had easy access to the same gun
that killed two dozen Children at Sandy Hook,

after letting the Assault Weapons ban expire in 2004,

and also after the Senate failed to even consider a replacement Under Secretary for Terrorism for the best part of a year after President Obama nominated him - despite his having worked for Republican Administrations?

HANDLING STREET HARASSMENT IS A LIFE AND DEATH SITUATION

You probably don't recognize Enietra Washington's name. But if you're black, a woman, and an American, you should.

This little story is about how she wound up in a car with serial killer, Lonnie Franklin Jr.

But before we get to that, let's look at some related situations

       PART I
      *********************************************

      DO YOU REMEMBER THIS FACE?
This is from a video that went quasi-viral
in black social media circles in 2015

This young black woman, a girl really, was walking through a mall, minding her own business when a couple of black men tried to talk to her. Her own cell phone video starts after she has already said "hello" to one of them.  Talking to her friend, she says she regrets saying anything to one of them because now he's following her.

"Can I get your name?" one of them asks more than one.

Clearly, the one that's actually following her around the mall is deaf, dumb, and stupid if he can't see her and her friend speed walking to get away from him. One of the men she decides not to give her time to? He quietly, but nastily calls her rude. But at least he goes away immediately.

      Cellphone Selfie Girl's Video

What is ten times more interesting than the video itself are the comments that black men and black women have made on this young woman's behavior.

The first thing this woman says in this version of the video is "I'm scared"
Yet, over and over again, black men and black WOMEN made it sound like this young woman

      1)  had no right to be filming herself  - "she thinks SHE'S CUTE" being the accusation
      2) that she OWED HIM a smile, owed him her time, and owed him a positive response to his trying to pick her up, if only for a little while.

In the comments, the girl is called conceited and rude over and over. And one guy actually says he'd have punched her.

       PART II
      *********************************************

This second story is just a news story about Janese Talton-Jackson. I hope you remember her. She's dead.

She didn't get the memo on black women owing black men their time and a smile. Jackson failed to respond positively to a black man's advances in a bar, and he killed her for it.

      http://www.vibe.com/2016/01/janese-talton-jackson-shot-killed-pittsburgh/

       PART II
      *********************************************

This is Enietra Washington. The video below is an interview she did. She is the only known survivor of the "Grim Sleeper."

Wanna know how this serial killer convinced her to get her in his car?

When she said "no,"  that she did not want to take him up on his offer to give her a lift to where she was going, he stopped his car, got out and then he accused her of being the kind of uppity, rude. Then he told her she was the typical black woman that doesn't give black men the time of day.

      She bought it.

      She got in.

      He shot her.

      Then he raped her.

(And yes, that was the order of events)

      Original Source of video
      http://ktla.com/2016/05/05/only-known-survivor-of-grim-sleeper-serial-killer-describes-her-ordeal/

      Let's do a quick recap

      Cellphone Selfie Girl -   "No"
The men she rejected go away angry
(She with harsh joking MUST EXPLAIN her "no" with a real or fake vicious boyfriend)
      Janese Talton-Jackson - "No"
She is killed by the man she rejected.

Enietra Washington - "Yes" She winds up getting into a car with a Serial Killer because she felt guilty about rejecting a Black Man AFTER she said, "No"

I am not trying to draw your attention to the insane murderers. What I am trying to draw your attention to are the comments, the comment-ers on the first video.

More than half of the black people who watched that first video clearly believed that young woman owed men who try to pick her up her time and a smile at the very least.  If you see that first video in various spots on social media, you'll see comments that indicate that large portions of the entire black community see that black girl as evidence of "what is wrong with black women"

A very, very large section of the black community (male and female) does not see black women as valuable, as people who speak words that should be respected. Black women are seen as owing black men.

White men see white women as owing them too. The Stanford Rapist's father with his "20 minutes of action" comment is not unique. But what's different in the black community is that black men are seen as both more important than black women and also as suffering from racism more. As though sexism and misogyny do not exist, black women are expected to just automatically talk to any black man who graciously decides to speak to her.

She is expected to be nice for 1 minute, 2 minutes, or 5 minutes and give a man her name if he asks for it.  And the thing that gets me is this: If she's seen talking to him and smiles nicely "like she's supposed to," if he rapes her later, she'll be explaining to the police why she was "flirting with him."

Black men don't understand consent, boundaries, and equality any better than white men do. But here is what they do understand: They how to make us feel guilty for having an opinion about what we want to do, when, and with who.

The Grim Sleeper, Lonnie Franklin Jr., played Enietra Washington and it almost cost her everything, her life.

Janese Talton-Jackson either never had a chance or she didn't play the game by "talking nice" to her murderer until he felt rejected gently enough to go home peacefully.

Cell-phone selfie girl? She's the only one that played the game correctly, apparently. She's the only one not raped, not shot, and alive to tell us how it's done.

So this is the society we live in now. Cellphone Selfie Girl's video is an instruction manual on how to get away from an aggressive stalker-flirt who thinks  he's owed something. This is what we have to teach our girls for now. But I'm wondering when we're going to start teaching our boys what consent is -- at all levels, even at the street harassment level. I don't think most men understand how many of us have wondered if we were about to go the way of Janese Talton-Jackson decades before we ever heard her name

THE ROAD TO COLLEGE FOR BLACK GIRLS

      Feeling Rebloggy

In black neighborhoods schools lack “the fundamental tools to get into college … we’re failing (black students) as educators, as support staff, as communities,” she explains, bolstered by a study examining gaps in college preparation.

On key measures, such as the percentage of high schools with no counselor and student-to-counselor ratio, black students fare worse than peers in affluent, predominately white schools.

Another piece of the puzzle is access to college-level courses. Black girls are more likely to attend segregated, high-poverty high schools where “a quarter…do not offer Algebra II;  a third…do not offer chemistry,” putting the full range of college prep classes out of reach.

      ~hechinger report

Part of this shocked me. I thought I was un-shockable when it comes to the treatment of underprivileged black schools.

Whenever I thought of poor, inner-city schools. I thought of decrepit buildings, books 20 years old and falling apart, lack of computers or old software. I could have guessed there would be fewer guidance counselors but zero? And it never even occurred to me that you could call a high school a "high school" and not offer match classes after Algerbra and just skip Chemistry classes altogether.

If a child goes to school where there's no guidance counselor, no Algerbra II, and no Chemistry, they virtually have no chance to go to a school with a reputation like Harvard, Princeton, etc.  If you can get your foot in the door of a college with a good rep you can go on to be the leader of the free world between the years of  2000 and 2008 even if you don't get a grade above C- once you're in that college

THE hErTEP CHRONICLES, PART 6 - A GOOD MAN'S FOCUS

He must work hard and leave the concerns about his job at work. His focus should be on you and only you once he hits the front door.

More importantly, he should be stress free, as that can hinder his sexual performance and your pleasure.

He should be flexible due to your adventurous approach to sexual positions. He should take yoga and power lift. These are the things that your man should to do to honor and uplift his queen.
